DOH: Four dead from firecracker injuries

Four people have now succumbed to firecracker-related injuries, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Sunday.

This follows the death of a 54-year-old man from Calabarzon, who died due to severe injuries to his left hand caused by kwitis.

Meanwhile, the total number of cases is now 832, which is 37 percent higher compared to the same period last year.

Of this figure, 491 of the victims are below the age of 19, and 685 of them are male.

Kwitis remains the leading cause of firecracker-related injuries, followed by 5-star and boga.

On the other hand, the DOH logged additional 18 cases of road crashes on Sunday, bring the total to 656 cases.

This is a 32.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Of the monitored accidents, 468 were motorcycle-related crashes.
