BAGUIO CITY — The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Baguio has reminded residents to observe extra caution and safety measures to avoid fire incidents that cause destruction to lives and properties.
This comes as the BFP recorded five incidents in the city in the last week of the month of December last year.
The agency explained that even though the number of fire incidents cannot be comparable to the numbers of such in other places which are way up high, lives and properties were still destroyed.
Based on the data of BFP, three fire incidents happened on 26 December 2024. The first one took place at Purok 4, Pinsao Proper Barangay in the afternoon of the day after a dryer overheated.
The second incident happened at around 7:30 p.m. of the same date at Barangay Camp Allen because of a gas stove that was left unattended. Moments later, stalls at the Hangar section of the Baguio City Public Market were razed after empty trays of eggs caught fire from a still lighted cigarette that was left in the area.
Last 28 December 2024, another structure was razed at Loakan Pidawan Proper Barangay and on the following day, three stalls were burnt at the miscellaneous section at Hilltop Road of the public market.
BFP Baguio Fire Marshal Fire Supt. Marisol Odiver appealed to the public to be always on guard against possible causes of fire incidents. He stressed that they should take such advice seriously.
Odiver said that people when cooking should not leave their stoves unattended, should not leave lighted candles unattended especially when there are children, and keep matches and lighters away where the kids cannot reach them.
