DCPO declares peaceful Christmas, New Year celebrations

Davao City has long been implementing the firecracker ban ordinance since 2002 that prohibits manufacturing, distribution, sale, possession, and the use of pyrotechnic devices.

DAVAO CITY — The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) declared the city’s Holiday Season as generally peaceful.

In interview reports on Saturday over Davao City Disaster Radio, DCPO spokesperson Capt. Hazel Tuazon bared that there are no reported casualties due to the use of firecrackers and indiscriminate firing during the said holidays.

Despite the fireworks display violation held on 1st January at Phase 1, Block 4 in NHA Bangkal, the DCPO Talomo Police Station are in full swing to arrest a certain “Botyok,” a businessman from Placer Poblacion, Surigao del Norte.

Witnesses told the police that the suspect was seen carrying a backpack to a riprap area where he ignited a pyrotechnic device that caused the firework display around 12:50 a.m. It was a clear violation of the City Ordinance No. 060-02 Series of 2002 Firecracker Ban.
