Kristensen goal sends Phl to Mitsubishi Electric Cup semis

A penalty by Bjorn Kristensen was enough to give the Philippines a 1-0 win over Indonesia late Saturday at the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup at the Manahan Stadium at Surakarta.

This lone win by the Filipinos is enough to advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2018 as they finished in second place with a 1-3-0 win-draw-loss record.

Muhammad Ferarri got sent off in the 42nd minute after he was given a red card, reducing the Indonesians to 10 men in the pitch.

Kristensen then calmly sank the penalty in the 63rd minute to give the Philippines a 1-0 lead.

The Indonesians had a chance in stoppage time but Ronaldo Kwateh's screamer in the 11th minute of added time was saved by goalkeeper Quincy Kameraad.

The Philippines will face Thailand for the first leg of the semifinals on 27 December at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

The last time both squads met in the Mitsubishi Electric Cup, the War Elephants smashed the Filipinos, 4-0, in 2022.
