GCash leverages AI for credit, collections

DT

Financial super app GCash is leveraging generative artificial intelligence (AI) to improve access to credit and enhance loan services through its lending arm, Fuse.

By integrating AI into credit scoring and collections, the platform aims to break down barriers in traditional lending systems and help more Filipinos achieve financial inclusion.

“AI has transformed our loan scoring and collections, making credit more accessible and repayments easier,” Fuse Lending president and CEO Tony Isidro said on Thursday.

“By using AI to assess the user’s eligibility and streamline collections, we can offer a more ethical and efficient lending experience and better serve millions of Filipinos.”

Fuse offers a range of digital loan products, such as GLoan, GCredit, GGives, GLoan Sakto Borrow Load. These products have collectively disbursed over P155 billion to 5.4 million borrowers, including small business owners. Nearly 90 percent of these borrowers have transitioned from informal lenders to GCash’s digital options.

AI drives GCash

AI plays a key role in GCash’s operations by assessing loan eligibility through a personalized trust score generated from users’ transaction histories within the app. This approach removes the need for traditional documentation and collateral, giving first-time borrowers access to formal credit.

The company has also implemented a fully digital loan collection process, allowing users to repay loans via the app. Features such as an auto-debit arrangement help customers avoid late payments, while a conversational Voice AI assistant named Gina enhances collection efficiency by doubling the capacity of the collection team.
