Grijaldo now under House detention

Police Colonel Hector Grijaldo is now serving his detention in the House of Representatives through the holidays after he was cited in contempt for repeatedly snubbing a congressional summons, Quadcomm chairperson Ace Barbers disclosed Monday.

“Colonel Grijaldo has been detained in the detention facility of the House of Representatives since 14 December. He will probably spend Christmas and New Year there,” Barbers told reporters in an interview.

Unlike other detainees like Cassandra Li Ong, a key figure in Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), who was held but was freed by the panel in the “spirit of Christmas,” Grijaldo will continue to be held for defying the committee’s invitation to attend the hearing not once, not twice, but four times.

“In fact, he snubbed the invitation of the House four times after coming out in the Senate where he made a lot [of accusations]. When we invited him [to the House], he just snubbed us. He showed disrespect [and] insulted the lower house,” Barbers said.
