Canton Tower: Your top Guangzhou stop

Pauline Joyce Pascual

If you’re in Guangzhou, skipping Canton Tower is a major no-go!

Standing tall at a jaw-dropping 600 meters, it’s not just the tallest tower in China —it’s also the third-highest tower in the world. Located at the heart of Guangzhou’s New City Central Axis, right across Haixinsha Island and Zhujiang New Town, this icon screams next-level vibes.

From its sleek design to its tech-savvy features, Canton Tower isn’t just a tower — it’s an experience. We’re talking epic views, heart-racing adventures, mouthwatering eats, a 4D cinema, wedding venues and even shopping. It’s basically a one-stop spot for everything cool. Oh, and did we mention it’s a proud member of the World Federation of Great Towers? That’s VIP energy right there.

Since earning its National AAAA-Level Tourist Attraction badge in 2013, Canton Tower has become Guangzhou’s ultimate flex — mixing modern design, advanced technology, and pure aesthetic “insta” feed goals. Whether you’re here for the sights, the food, or just the clout, Canton Tower delivers big-time. So, don’t sleep on this iconic tower — it’s Guangzhou’s glow-up moment, and you need to be part of it.

Slim Queen of Skyscrapers

Most TV towers stick to the same vibe: wide base, narrow top, and not much else. But Canton Tower? It totally broke the mold. Visitors wanted something fresh, something that pushed the boundaries — and Canton Tower delivered with a design that’s as unique as it is breathtaking.

According to Canton Tower’s official website, when designers Mark Hemel and Barbara Kuit took on the challenge, they skipped the usual cultural clichés and went for something different. Instead of relying on traditional Chinese symbols, they infused their design with an understated oriental charm. Their inspiration? The elegance of the human body. The slim, twisting silhouette of Canton Tower was inspired by the human hip joint. Mark created a 3D model by tying two oval wooden trays together with elastic ropes and giving the top ellipse a 45-degree twist — voila! The result was a shape as graceful as a lady twisting her waist while looking back.

With its delicate and sophisticated form, Canton Tower instantly captured global attention. Its revolutionary design isn’t just a visual treat — it’s a whole new way of thinking about architecture. The tower redefines what it means to combine art, engineering and culture into one iconic masterpiece.

This iconic pedestrian bridge isn’t just pretty — it’s the largest curved-girder arch bridge on the planet. Spanning 488 meters, it connects Canton Tower to nearby islands with Lingnan architecture vibes inspired by Cantonese Opera and traditional flower boats.
