Shawie Caritativo continues to own the spotlight in Savouge’s surprise run in the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference.
Showcasing his scoring prowess and solid floor defense, Caritativo was at the forefront of the Spin Doctors’ gatecrashing into the semifinals.
Although Savouge ultimately fell short of reaching the one-game championship, Caritativo’s stellar performance did not go unnoticed.
The six-foot outside spiker stood out in the Spin Doctors’ gallant stand against fancied Criss Cross, 22-25, 25-22, 24-26, 13-25, delivering a game-high 25 points off 21 attacks, three blocks, and a service ace to go with 16 excellent receptions last Wednesday.
Savouge gained momentum heading into the bronze medal match after ripping Ultras, 25-17, 25-22, 25-19, last Friday behind Caritativo’s all-around performance of 11 points, 10 receptions, and eight digs.
The Spin Doctors will face DN Steel Far Eastern University in the battle for third on Sunday.
“Our happiness is at 101 percent since our team got into the semifinals and coach Sydney (Calderon) is also glad with what we have achieved so far. We have a chance to get a podium finish. Hopefully, we’ll get that bronze medal as a Christmas gift for our coach,” Caritativo shared.
For his undeniable positive effect on Savouge, Caritativo earned the Spikers’ Turf Press Corps Player of the Week (PoW) award presented by Pilipinas Live for the period of 13 to 15 December.
It was his second distinction after bagging the same honor two months ago.
The 23-year-old pride of Rosales, Pangasinan got the nod from print and online reporters covering the beat, edging out Criss Cross’ Nico Almendras and Jude Garcia and Cignal’s Jau Umandal for the final recognition of the season.
Caritativo, however, is far from satisfied as he looks to improve further to push Savouge to greater heights.
“I’d rate performance eight out of 10 since I also had off games,” he said.
“I hope to improve on all aspects like attacking, receiving, blockings, and service so that me and also the whole team will play better in the next conference.”
Savouge has improved by leaps and bounds since its debut last year when it finished 13 in the Invitationals and fifth in the 2024 Reinforced Conference.
