BAGUIO CITY — The Committee on Tourism of Sangguniang Bayan of La Trinidad, Benguet is optimistic that one of its famous tourist destinations will draw more visitors once it is improved.

Committee head Councilor Belmer Elis said that the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) gave a positive response to their request for funding for the improvement of the Benguet State University Strawberry Farm in Betag, La Trinidad.

According to the councilor, they were notified that the management of TIEZA headed by chief operation officer Mark Lapid is interested and ready to fund the project with P100 million.

Elis said that the funds will be processed once the local government unit of La Trinidad and the management of BSU enter into a Memorandum of Agreement for the said improvement.

He added that one of the requirements is that the project will also be approved and endorsed by the National Economic Development Authority.

The Strawberry Farm, operated by BSU, is frequented by local and foreign tourists for the strawberry produce where they can experience harvesting ripe strawberries themselves. The farm also offers strawberry by-products, local delicacies and others.

Elis stressed the importance of improving the municipality, especially its destinations, to boost the tourism industry of Benguet’s capital town.
