In a statement shared on social media, John Galliano announced that he would be leaving Maison Margiela and expressed his gratitude to the fashion house, which he described as his “safe space” for the past ten years.
“I am forever grateful for this safe space to create and build a new family that supports me with courage and dignity. While little changed in the industry at that time, my perspective on it has shifted dramatically. I now see changes around me: compassion and empathy,” Galliano stated.
He also acknowledged his team, highlighting their importance during his tenure at the Belgian fashion house.
“I want to express my gratitude to my fashion family for this life-saving creative moment and for the safe place we have built together. My teams, whose support has been both tender and courageous, have walked with me along this narrow pathway to the present,” he added.
The fashion star was appointed as creative director at Margiela in 2014, marking his first role since his controversial departure from Dior in 2011.
Galliano's influence is evident in the Tabi shoe, an iconic Margiela design first launched in 1988. It has recently gained popularity in Paris, London, New York, and other fashion capitals due to its efforts to boost brand awareness.
