Ilocos Norte celebrates SGLG honors

Two cities and eight municipalities in Ilocos Norte have been recognized for exemplary governance and public service after receiving the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG). The honorees include the cities of Batac and Laoag, alongside the municipalities of Vintar, Solsona, San Nicolas, Pinili, Nueva Era, Marcos, Dingras and Bacarra.

The SGLG, awarded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), is a hallmark of excellence in local governance. Established under Republic Act 11292, also known as the Seal of Good Local Governance Act of 2019, the award recognizes local government units (LGUs) that excel in areas such as financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, peace and order, business friendliness, environmental management, health, education and tourism.

Achieving the SGLG is a rigorous process. LGUs must pass a stringent assessment across multiple criteria, ensuring that they provide transparent, accountable and inclusive governance that fosters development and improves the quality of life for their constituents. This recognition also comes with incentives, such as eligibility for the Performance Challenge Fund and access to other national programs to support local development projects.

For Ilocos Norte, these awards manifest the commitment of its local leaders to good governance and service delivery.
