Japan, US, Philippines conduct maritime exercise

TDT

The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) participated in a trilateral exercise with the United States Navy (USN) and the Philippine Navy (PN) on Friday, deploying the JS Samidare as part of the 5th Maritime Cooperative Activity (MCA).

The exercise marks another significant step in strengthening cooperation among the three countries to address shared maritime security challenges and ensure regional stability.

The event featured a series of tactical drills aimed at enhancing collective maritime capabilities, improving interoperability, and reinforcing regional security cooperation.

This trilateral engagement also underscores the shared commitment of Japan, the U.S., and the Philippines to the principles of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP), which emphasizes freedom of navigation and overflight and promotes a rules-based international order, as outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS)
