Rosegie Ramos delivered another medal — a bronze — for the six-man Philippines team in the IWF World Championships last Saturday at the Weightlifting Marquee Venue in Manama, Bahrain.

Ramos, 20, lifted 88kgs in the snatch and 105kgs in the clean-and-jerk for a total lift of 193kgs in the 49-kg category.

This is the country’s second medal in this year’s competition after Fernando Agad Jr. also took a bronze medal in the men’s 55-kg category.

Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas president Monico Puentevella told DAILY TRIBUNE that they have grand plans for Ramos as she prepares for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Ramos missed out the Paris Summer Games this year after not getting into the top 10 of the International Weightlifting Federation Olympic Qualification Ranking.

“She’s learning her lesson the hard way. In His Time, she’ll be going to the Los Angeles Olympics too in three more years,” Puentevella said.

“She has to train more and we have plans for her, too,” he added.

Ri Song Gum of North Korea dominated the women’s 49-kg event after lifting a total of 213kgs behind a snatch of 91kgs and a clean-and-jerk of 122kgs.

Meanwhile, Linxiang Xiang setteled for a silver after lifting a snatch of 92kgs and a clean-and-jerk of 120kgs for a total lift of 212kgs.

Dave Pacaldo is competing in the men’s 67-kg event at press time.
