A police officer reportedly dismembered a fellow cop at Camp Bagong Diwa in Lower Bicutan, Taguig City, after allegedly catching the victim in an intimate situation with his wife.
Reports reaching the Southern Police District (SPD) indicated that the crime occurred last week.
The victim, who has not been identified, held the rank of Police Executive Master Sergeant.
Investigators said the victim’s body was found on 5 December, buried at the male suspect’s ancestral home in Baguio City.
The suspect, a police lieutenant colonel, admitted to committing the crime and provided a sworn affidavit.
While the investigation is ongoing, authorities are considering the possibility of it being a crime of passion.
According to reports, the suspect discovered the victim in an intimate situation with his wife, who is also an Executive Master Sergeant. In response, the suspect shot the victim.
After shooting the victim, the police officer used a hacksaw to dismember the body.
The suspect then transported the victim’s remains in a pickup truck to Baguio City, where he buried the body.
The suspect later revealed the location of the burial site to the police.
Before the discovery of the victim’s body, the victim had been reported missing.
The SPD said there were reports and social media posts indicating the victim’s disappearance. The victim’s child visited Camp Bagong Diwa, as it was the last place the victim was seen.
The police are also treating the suspect’s wife as a potential accomplice and may file conspiracy charges, as she was present during the crime.
Murder charges are being considered against the couple, who are currently in police custody.
The hacksaw used by the officer to dismember the victim is now the subject of an active search, and the pickup truck used to transport the body is also in police custody.
Authorities are awaiting the forensic report, which will reveal the number of gunshots the victim sustained.
