Modern heritage

Each color had a symbolic interpretation but cohesively the immortalized dress ‘symbolize modernity in health, fashion, and natural beauty.’

Manila has recently become the melting pot of intimate international designer trunk shows. Recently, renowned Malaysian designer Khoon Hooi held his second trunk show in the Philippines. This time around he launched his exclusive Chinese New Year Collection at the Manila Peninsula Hotel, showcasing it to a select group of guests ahead of its release in Malaysia.

The ultra chic collection featured an exquisite array of covetable Cheongsams. Remember the iconic Wong Kar-Wai film In the Mood for Love where Maggie Cheung (who played Mrs. Chan) wore a total of 22 fashion and style pieces. Each color had a symbolic interpretation but cohesively the immortalized dress “symbolize modernity in health, fashion and natural beauty.” This is quite parallel to Hooi’s progressive and creations. Each masterpiece stunningly display the blending of tradition with the modernity of silhouettes beautifully adorned with intricate details like jade-inspired buttons and delicate brooches. Each piece embodies a perfect fusion of timeless elegance and contemporary fashion. It is a style statement reflecting Khoon Hooi’s unique design sensibilities and deep appreciation for heritage.
