Thousands of city councilors from across the country voiced their support for senatorial candidate Luis “Manong Chavit” Singson during the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) Year-End National Assembly held at the World Trade Center on Tuesday.

Singson outlined his key platforms, including his VBank initiative, a digital financial program aimed at providing interest-free loans to Filipinos who face challenges accessing traditional financial services.

“I am the only one crazy enough to give loans without interest,” he said.

Singson explained that VBank seeks to empower Filipinos by offering bank accounts and free credit cards to those who need them most, particularly in remote areas with limited access to traditional banking.

To demonstrate VBank’s capabilities, Singson conducted a live demonstration, transferring nominal funds to volunteer attendees. His humorous exclusion of users from competing e-wallet platforms drew laughter and from the audience.

Singson also highlighted his transformation of Ilocos Sur, describing how he led the province from poverty and unrest to peace and prosperity.

“In my province, I turned it from poor and violent to peaceful and prosperous,” he said.

Additionally, Singson promoted his advocacy for electric vehicles (EVs) as a solution to reduce pollution and promote sustainability. His environmental platform resonated with local leaders, who recognized the potential of EVs in addressing the nation’s environmental challenges.

The event featured prominent leaders, including PCL National Chairman Raul Corro, PCL National President Handy Lao, and Assistant Secretary Jesi Howard Lanete of the Department of the Interior and Local Government. Their presence underscored the importance of collaboration between national and local leaders to drive meaningful progress.
