President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. yesterday promised government assistance to a Tondo community that was ravaged by fire last week.
Over 2,100 Manileños were affected as the blaze razed a thousand houses at Isla Puting Bato.
Despite the devastating loss, the victims were overjoyed at Marcos’ visit.
“Filipinos are really unique. Look at the hardships you’ve gone through in the past few days and yet you’re still smiling,” Marcos said.
He said he will repay the smiles with government assistance for the immediate recovery of their community.
Marcos directed the Department of Social Welfare and Development to distribute food packs to over 2,000 families. He said one food pack can feed one Filipino family for three to four days.
“Don’t worry if you finish [one food pack] in two days, there’s still plenty. We’ll give you what you need,” he said.
