Operatives from the Quezon City Police District’s Anti-Carnapping Unit, led by P/Lt. Col. Hector Ortencio, have recovered another stolen vehicle involved in a “rent-tangay” scheme and arrested the thief.

Ortencio identified the suspect as Wee Ren Victor Mak, who rented the Hyundai Tucson on 30 October 2024, with an agreement to return it by 21 November 2024.

However, the vehicle, a Hyundai Tucson, was not returned, prompting the owner to seek assistance from DACU on 26 November 2024.

Acting swiftly on the complaint, DACU operatives successfully located the motor vehicle at Barangay Sauyo in Quezon City through a confidential informant.

During the investigation in the area, a certain Robert Khristian Queri appeared and reported that it was left to him on 17 November 2024, by his air-conditioning technician identified as alias Arnold.

The technician — who was informed that the vehicle was involved in a rent-tangay scheme in Bacoor Cavite — revealed that a client named Nicole Katryn Confesor brought the vehicle to him for repair.

Confesor later appeared at the DACU office and showed documents, including a deed of sale, the vehicle’s OR/CR, and photocopies of IDs from both the registered owner and the suspect.

She claimed that she bought the vehicle from the suspect for P350,000 on 14 November 2024, at Shore Residences in Pasay City.

Meanwhile, the recovered motor vehicle is temporarily impounded at DACU for LTO/HPG verification.
