Maynilad bags IWA Climate Smart Utilities honor

Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) has been recognized as one of 28 “climate smart utilities” worldwide by the International Water Association (IWA).

The recognition was awarded during the 2024 IWA Climate Smart Utilities Recognition event held in Toronto, Canada.

IWA honored Maynilad for its innovative approaches to mitigating and adapting to the impacts of climate change. The company’s strategies include reducing water losses, expanding wastewater services, boosting water production, and pursuing sustainability programs aligned with its “climate neutral by 2037” goal.

Maynilad is among 28 utilities from 19 countries that were selected for the recognition following a rigorous review process by an expert panel.

“Being recognized by IWA as a ‘climate smart’ utility affirms our commitment to addressing the challenges of climate change. This is a testament to the hard work of our team and our continuous efforts to implement sustainable practices that ensure water security for future generations,” said Maynilad chief sustainability officer Atty. Roel S. Espiritu.

IWA is a global network of water professionals dedicated to promoting sustainable water management. The Climate Smart Recognition Program acknowledges utilities that are leading the way in reducing carbon emissions and adapting to climate change.
