Disbarment raps filed vs lawyer over FL comment

A litigator and a university professor filed a disbarment complaint against fellow lawyer Atty. Glenn A. Chong before the Supreme Court recently over his comment against First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.

Atty. Andre R. de Jesus slapped Chong with raps following his comment at a rally of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ where the lawyer had publicly dared the First Lady to face him so he could slap her "back-to-back."

While declining to further comment on his complaint in view of the confidential character of disbarment proceedings, De Jesus underscored the need to uphold propriety and decency in the legal profession.

"It is rudimentary that no person should engage in conduct that attacks the dignity of another lawyer or impute a crime without basis. We lawyers, who are presumed to know and are mandated to uphold the law, therefore, should not be heard threatening women with the infliction of physical harm," De Jesus said.

“Profanity has no place in the legal profession. We should not be rude, even to our competitors -- in court, in politics or in life. And especially, we should not be rude to women,” he added.
