Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner and former Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Atty. Hubert Dominic Guevara passed away on Friday at the age of 56, Malacañang confirmed.
"We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Commissioner Guevara," the Office of the President wrote on its official Facebook page.
"Former SDES Guevara will be remembered for his spirit, dedication, and exemplary service to the Filipino people," it added.
Guevara, formerly a senior deputy executive secretary in the Office of the President, assumed the role of SEC commissioner on 1 March, succeeding Kelvin Lester Lee, who supervised the markets and securities regulation department.
His appointment marked his return to the SEC over a decade after his tenure as director of the agency's former Compliance and Enforcement Department, now recognized as the Enforcement and Investor Protection Department.
Guevara, who previously served as a managing partner at Joaquin Guevara Adarlo & Caoile Law Offices, also held teaching positions at private educational institutions, according to the corporate regulator.
He attained his bachelor's degree in legal management from the Ateneo de Manila University, where he also obtained his law degree.
