Camiguin ‘cracker’ injury-free

Cagayan de Oro City — The island province of Camiguin — a popular tourist destination in Northern Mindanao — has registered zero casualty during the Christmas and New Year's revelries.

According to Department of Health Northern Mindanao's Dr. Dave Mendoza, at least 35 firecracker injuries in the provinces of Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, one case of gunshot wound in the region was also reported during the revelries.

"Only the province of Camiguin has no case of firecracker or gunshot wound injuries," Mendoza said.

He added that the DoH surveillance — which began in 21 December 2023 and will end on 6 January 2024 at 5 a.m. — also reported that most of the victims were passive observers aged from 10 to 25 not active participants in the revelries.
