Young farmers, new agri tech highlight Tarlac’s 8th Field Day

Tarlac City, Tarlac — The new generation of farmers and new agricultural technologies highlight the 8th Field Day held at Barangay Paraiso here last Tuesday.

Headed by the Research Outreach Station for Lowland Development, the 8th Field Day — carrying the theme "Young Minds for Green Business: Empowering the Future of Agricultural Entrepreneurs" — kicked off with a Field Tour and followed by the opening remark of OIC-station manager Josephine Muñoz.

In his speech, Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 3 regional technical director for Research, Regulatory and Integrated Laboratory Division Arthur Dayrit said that the agency is hopeful that these youngsters would take up agriculture-related courses due to its many opportunities.

He added that the agriculture and fishery sector will prosper and if these young farmers ever need technology, the research stations of the Department of Agriculture is always open.

Meantime, young agripreneur Awie Cancio, a Regional Young Farmer Awardee, said that one of the lessons he learned from doing business is gaining knowledge and ideas, adding that to be an entrepreneur, change must start from oneself with the mindset focused on the goals and objectives of the business.

A discussion was also held regarding Mushroom Production Road towards Millions led by Drew Carillo of the Carillo Kabute Food Products; Organic Integrated Farming to a Healthy Living by Marilou Facun, an Organic Practitioner and Agripreneur; Paghahayupan, Pagkakaperahan by Randy Valerio, a Goat Farmer and Agripreneur; and Nursery Seedlings Production highlighted by Angel Tulabut, another Agripreneur.

Aside from the seminar, contests and games were held such as On-the-Spot-Poster-Making Contest, Farmers' Quiz Bee, Students' Quiz Bee, Native Pig Hunting and raffles for all participants.
