LTO to regional directors: Ensure road safety, assistance this holiday season

Mendoza orders LTO Regional Directors to prepare road safety and assistance measures for Yuletide season

Land Transportation Office Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II ordered on Monday, December 11, all Regional Directors to prepare the necessary road safety and assistance measures for the expected influx of travelers on the roads during the Yuletide season.

This is in line with the instruction of Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista for all agencies under the department to ensure safe travel during the holidays.

"Ngayon pa lang ay ramdam na ang dagdag na bilang ng mga sasakyan sa Metro Manila. Inaasahan natin na lalo pa itong madadagdagan habang papalapit ang Pasko hindi lamang dito sa Metro Manila kung hindi pati na rin sa mga urban areas sa buong bansa," said Mendoza.

"In connection with this, I already instructed all Regional Directors to prepare the necessary road safety and assistance to all our motorists across the country in coordination with other government agencies," he added.

Mendoza said among the areas that they would focus on are the roads leading to and from transportation hubs like airports and bus terminals and major thoroughfares across the country.

He said Regional Directors are also directed to coordinate with the Philippine National Police and local government units in the identification of accident-prone areas in order to come up with measures to prevent fatal accidents similar to what happened in Antique recently.

Mendoza earlier ordered all LTO enforcers to go easy on owners of delinquent motor vehicles by just warning them to register their vehicles instead of issuing traffic violations tickets.

But Mendoza clarified that after the New Year celebration, the LTO will be stricter in the implementation of the "No Registration, No Travel" policy.

"Our offices are still open and in fact, designated special lanes for those who would renew the registration of their motor vehicles. Our motor vehicle registration caravan will also continue," said Mendoza.
