Task force eyes Kennon Road opening

BAGUIO CITY — The Joint Inter-Agency Task Force disclosed on Sunday that it is now conducting further studies following the inspection of the famous Kennon Road for its possible opening to the general public, particularly to motorists visiting and leaving the city.

The task force conducted the inspection in response to the requests of the Baguio City Peace and Order Council and the Metropolitan Baguio City, La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Tuba, Tublay Development Authority Council for the opening of the shortest highway leading to Baguio and other parts of the Cordillera Region.

This comes as the city pushed its bid to lessen the traffic volume that Baguio City is experiencing especially during tourist peak season and long holidays.

The BPOC made the request through its Resolution 08, Series of 2023, which prompted by the traffic congestions taking place at the Marcos Highway and Naguillan Road. According to the BPOC, the traffic problem worsened because of the closure of Kennon Road for a long time.

Kennon Road was closed for the implementation of a Rehabilitation and Enhancement Project of the Department of Public Works and Highways to secure the road from erosions and rock falls which endangers motorists and the public.

Only the residents in the barangays where the road runs through are allowed to access the road.
