To advance the production of globally competent graduates, higher education leaders must enhance their leadership abilities, according to the Commission on Higher Education, or CHED.

CHEd Chairperson Prospero de Vera III issued the call during the joint graduation ceremony for the CHEd Global Academic Leadership Program last week.

In 2021, the CHEd partnered with the Asian Institute of Management to upgrade the leadership skills of those at the helm of state universities and colleges, local universities and colleges, CHEd and other education agencies.

De Vera said the program was crafted to strengthen the participants' problem-solving, decision-making, and team-building skills given the challenges of globalization and the new perspective of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The GALP initiative had two phases, the first phase targeted SUC presidents and directors from the CHED Central and Regional Offices.

"We have a total of 151 participants, from the four cohorts, 67 percent came from SUCs, 31 percent from CHEd and other HEIs and government agencies," De Vera said.

The second phase was designed for presidents of local universities and colleges, their core team members, and LUC government partners, including local chief executives managing LUCs and officials from CHEd and DILG Central and Regional Offices.
