Over 700 traffic violations cited
Among the apprehended motorists, 68 vehicles were unregistered, 144 faced violations for other offenses and four vehicles were impounded
The Land Transportation Office in the National Capital Region reported on Sunday that at least 724 motorists were apprehended for violating traffic laws in recent regular operations.
LTO-NCR regional director Roque Verzosa III disclosed that the motorists were caught violating Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, Republic Act 8750 or requiring adult seat belts, Presidential Decree 96 which prohibits the use of sirens, blinkers, horns and gadgets to bypass traffic and colorum vehicles.
Verzosa said that the operations took place from 8 to 17 November and were conducted under the guidance of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista and LTO Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II.
Operatives conducted an operation last 17 November at Malaria Caloocan and Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City, resulting in the apprehension of 212 motorists and among the apprehended motorists, 68 vehicles were unregistered, 144 faced violations for other offenses and four vehicles were impounded.
Verzosa said that one taxi driver initially fled but was subsequently apprehended for using a fake license while another taxi driver was captured after a prolonged chase, exhibiting reckless driving and arrogance and was found to be in violation of not wearing a seatbelt.
