Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. stressed on Tuesday that he will continue to monitor the case and ensure justice to Althea Vivien Mendoza, a third-year medical technology student who was shot by her classmate at the parking lot of Saint Paul University Philippines in Tuguegarao last 13 November.
Abalos was appalled by the viral video showing Saint Paul University-Tuguegarao student Mendoza being shot and beaten by another student inside their school campus.
"As secretary of the DILG, I will not allow any kind of violence against women and rest assured that I will personally monitor this case and ensure that justice is done," Abalos said.
He will also talk to the educators to find out how can better ensure the safety of children inside their campuses and hopefully, the school officials can find better ways to detect troubled or disturbed individuals so that they can intervene sooner.
