Phl, US Marines hold subject matter expert exchanges with Japan, UK in Palawan

The Philippine Marines Corps and the United States Marines along with Japan Ground Self Defense Force, and observers from the United Kingdom have conducted the subject matter expert exchanges in various topics to improve their interoperability. 

PMC spokesperson, Capt. Jarald Rea, said the participating forces have undergone SMEE on Explosive Ordnance Disposal,  Mortar Familiarization, PMC Martial Arts Program, Tactical Combat Casualty Care, and Basic Photography which were held in Palawan. 

Rea said marine soldiers were given lectures on equipping and advancing techniques to safely and efficiently detect, neutralize, and dispose of improvised explosive devices.

While the Mortar Familiarization SMEE aimed to enhance participants' understanding and proficiency in mortar systems.

"Through practical demonstrations and interactive sessions, attendees gained insights into mortar operations, aiming and firing techniques, ammunition types, and range estimation. The activity emphasized the importance of accuracy, safety, and effective teamwork in mortar employment," said Rea. 

Further, renowned martial arts instructors shared their knowledge and skills in close-quarters combat, edged weapons techniques, and empty-hand combat. 

"Participants learned the principles of PMCMAP and its relevance to modern combat situations, emphasizing speed, precision, and adaptability," Rea noted. 

He added that the Tactical Combat Casualty Care will enhance participants' ability to provide immediate medical care in high-stress combat environments as well as rapid and effective medical intervention in saving lives on the battlefield.

This year's 7th iteration of the KAMANDAG exercise is being participated by a total of 2,749 marine soldiers—of the figure 1,732 are from the Philippines, 902 US sailors, 57 Korean Marine Corps, 50 are from Japan Ground Self-Defense Forces and 9 soldiers from United Kingdom armed forces and will run until 17 November.
