The local government of Manila is keen on addressing the alarming rise in the number of teen pregnancies in the city, which prompted it to launch a program dubbed as "Wag Maging BIBA" with "BIBA" standing for the words "batang ina, batang ama."
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna stressed that the program will provide lectures to parents and guardians of the youth on reproductive health among minors.
Meantime, Manila Health Department head Dr. Arnold Pangan said that the "Wag Maging BIBA" program will also spread awareness on the hardships of being teenage parents and unwanted pregnancies and its prevention.
In other developments, the Manila mayor is also urging kind-hearted individuals to help in the local government's "Walang Batang Bungi Pagdating ng 2030" project, which aims to provide braces to indigent children with teeth problems.
The city government has also distributed Educational Cash Assistance to 1,880 indigent students and Capital Assistance to over 2,000 parents of indigent children.
Through the assistance of the Division of City Schools Manila, the city was also able to provide free uniforms, bags and school supplies to a total of 165,775 students.
The Manila City Library, on the other hand, continues to provide free use of computers and Wi-Fi in the city's public libraries. The MCL also conducts Digital Literacy Program, Library Orientation, Tutorial Services, Art Sessions, Educational Film Showing, Puppet Show, Recreational Games, Story Telling and Mobile Library.
