German firms eye solutions to Manila’s waste management woes

German companies engaged in waste management have expressed strong interest in entering into local partnerships and/or assist waste management professionals and landfill operators in addressing waste management problems in the country. 

These companies, members of the Center of Excellence for Waste were in Manila recently to take part in  "State of the Art Solutions — Made in Germany" — a conference focused on landfill management organized by the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry or GPCCI along with the CE4W at the Dusit Thani last 7 November 2023.

CE4W is a coalition of companies which include Bomag GmbH, ICP Environmental and Geotechnical Engineering, Hofstetter Gastechnik AG, Naue Group and WEHRLE — all prominent European solution providers who have joined forces to assist waste management companies and landfill operators in tackling the challenge of waste management.

The companies in CE4W offer support to companies in various aspects of waste management, drawing on their extensive experience within the circular economy and waste-to-resources framework.

They provide expert guidance, aid in waste compaction to extend the operational life of landfills and maximize their financial returns, implement sustainable leachate treatment methods to maintain consistently low operational costs, and harness landfill gas for additional revenue generation. 

The primary objectives of waste treatment revolve around safeguarding the environment and conserving valuable resources.

If done inappropriately, it not only poses risks to public health but also imposes a substantial financial burden on society and future generations.

The reason is often attributed to a lack of awareness about established, effective solutions.

In response to this, the leading European solution providers in CE4W have melded their expertise to assist waste management firms and landfill operators in addressing this intricate challenge. Their initiative offers competent consulting across multiple facets of waste management.

Overall, CE4W's collective mission is to offer environmentally responsible solutions while conserving valuable resources.
