AFP: Japan’s P235.5-M coastal radar system grant to Phl crucial to protecting maritime interests

The Armed Forces of the Philippines on Saturday welcomed the Japanese government's Official Security Assistance grant worth P235.50 million for the coastal security efforts in the country.

AFP Public Affairs chief, Col. Xerxes Trinidad said the grant could help the military organization to better push for maritime domain awareness.

"This is a significant step forward in the ongoing partnership between the Philippines and Japan," Trinidad told reporters.

Trinidad said the coastal radar systems, funded through the OSA program, are a vital addition to the AFP's maritime defense capabilities.

He added it will also bolster the AFP's ability to monitor and protect the country's extensive coastline, ensuring the safety and security of Philippine seas.

"The AFP extends its gratitude to the government of Japan, who shares a common commitment towards regional peace and stability," Trinidad stressed.

"We remain resolute in our determination to protect our maritime interests, and with the assistance of our allies, we continue to strive for peace and security in our region," he added.
