Comelec to resolve barangay, SK elections DQ cases by next week

The Commission on Elections said on Friday  it is eyeing to resolve all pending cases by next week for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

Comelec chairman George Garcia Erwin Garcia said in an interview that there are currently 125 disqualification cases filed for the 2023 BSKE.

"Expect in the coming week, the decisions will come out… From the Comelec division, the resolutions are circulating where the 125 filed disqualification cases will be resolved by the Comelec," Garcia said.

"Before 30 October, there will be names that will be disqualified and removed from the list [of BSKE candidates]," he added.

The Comelec also has the authority to suspend any proclamation if it found out that a candidate has a disqualification case and the case has merit, said Garcia.

About 12 candidates for the BSKE have already been disqualified.
