The Armed Forces of the Philippines is eyeing continued diplomatic defense cooperation with the Defense Attachés of Thailand to the Philippines amid the latter's change of leadership.

This came after AFP Inspector General, LtGen. William Gonzales welcomed the incoming and outgoing Defense Attachés of Thailand to the Philippines, in a "Joint Introductory and Exit Call"  on Tuesday at the AFP General Headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

"We would like to thank you for your services here for the last three years, and I hope you gained a lot of experience. We are very thankful for your time and assistance to the Armed Forces of the Philippines," Gonzales told the outgoing Thai Attaché Group Capt. Soonthorn Pongampai will be replaced by Capt Nirut Rattanajanya.

AFP Public Affairs Chief Col. Enrico Gil Ileto said the AFP leadership awarded Pongampai with the "Chief of Staff, Armed Forces of the Philippines Commendation Medal and Ribbon" for his outstanding services provided to the AFP as Thai Defense Attaché from October 2020 to September 2023.

"As manifested in the strong defense relationship and engagements of both counties, the Armed Forces of the Philippines looks forward to continuing diplomatic cooperation with the Thailand Armed Forces," Ileto said.
