Chinese yards deliver hybrid car ship

Two Chinese shipyards delivered Tuesday a car-shipping vessel powered by liquefied natural gas and fuels to a Norwegian company.

The Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited and China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. jointly built the "EMDEN" for SFL Corporation Ltd.

The ship has 13 decks measuring 200 meters long by 38 meters wide and runs at 19 knots. It can transport 7,000 vehicles at a maximum distance of 15,000 nautical miles.

The past two years have witnessed a surge in market demand for car-shipping vessels, partly due to insufficient shipping capacity, and partly due to failures of veteran ships to meet the current emission requirements, Xinhua reported.
