Coughing, moans, deathly silence

Residents said they have seen the man in the vacant lot for about six days prior to the discovery of his lifeless body by another senior citizen

The Navotas City police on Christmas Day Sunday found a street-dwelling old man dead near an empty lot in Block 24, Phase 1B of Barangay NBBS, Kaunlaran.

Police probers theorized that the man, about 70 years old, may have died from hunger and the chilly Yuletide weather. He was wearing a black t-shirt and diaper.

The man, who remained unidentified at press time, also had tattoos on his left hand and left leg.

Residents said they have seen the man in the vacant lot for about six days prior to the discovery of his lifeless body by another senior citizen.

The woman who found him said they heard him coughing and moaning in apparent pain the night before. A cursory observation of the body conducted by the police showed no apparent external injuries.

The remains were brought to Nare Funeral Services for an autopsy to determine the actual cause of death.
