Jimenez named UP president regent

Former University of the Philippines faculty regent and private lawyer Atty. Angelo Jimenez was named as 22nd the UP president Regent, leading the country's national university with eight constituent universities and 21 campuses nationwide.

Jimenez was selected by the UP Board of Regents during a closed-door interview Friday morning, along with five other candidates for the position.

He is one of the six individuals vying for the position, which also include Catanduanes State University president Dr. Patrick Alain Azanza, Wesleyan University-Philippines College of Law dean and former Una ang Edukasyon Partylist Representative Dr. Salvador Belaro Jr., UP chancellor Fidel Nemenzo, UP Institute of Civil Engineering Professor Dr. Benito Pacheco, and former UP Los Banos chancellor Fernando Sanchez Jr.

In a previous interview, Jimenez said that he is seeking to digitize UP's learning management and student-centric system of learning, and improving the quality of graduate and post-graduate programs.
