Bubble Gang actor and creative director Michael V. is thrilled that the longest-running gag show — now on its 27th year — is able to catch up with the evolving Filipino humor. The show first aired on 20 October 1995 on the GMA Network.
"I feel happy thinking that Bubble Gang has come full circle. Most of the things that people laugh at nowadays are almost always a rehash of what we've done years ago," he said.
O ut of all the show's segments, Michael V. takes pride in its parodies, saying that those are his trademark as an artist.
"At the end of the day, it's still a job that everyone has to do. I think the only surefire formula is to go with the trend para relevant ka palagi," he said.
Michael V. further hopes that Bubble Gang will help elevate the taste and humor of Filipinos.
"May mga jokes at skits kami minsan na masyadong ambisyoso or hindi pa hinog for primetime pero 'yun 'yung hoping kami na maging seeds that will eventually grow into something that will improve the industry. Baka hindi pa ngayon pero we're not losing our hopes for a better future."
Bubble Gang marks its 27th year on television via specials this November.
A parody of the song "Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw" and comedic sketches such as "Pranning Man," "Marites United," "Patibong" and "Istambay" will tickle the funny bones of viewers in the said anniversary episodes.
Bubble Gang's cast includes Paolo Contis, Sef Cadayona, Betong Sumaya, Chariz Solomon, Valeen Montenegro, Archie Alemania, Tuesday Vargas, Analyn Barro, Faye Lorenzo, Dasuri Choi, Kim de Leon, Kokoy de Santos with guests Buboy Villar and Faith da Silva.
The last of the two-part special, directed by Frasco Mortiz, airs 25 November at 9:40 p.m.
Stream it on Bubble Gang and YouLOL's Facebook accounts, Youtube, and TikTok. Viewers abroad can watch the program via GMA Pinoy TV.
