Sixteen residential buildings to be constructed in Tanauan, Batangas under the government's Pambansang Pabahay Program will house at least 4,000 informal settler families, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development said on Thursday.

The housing project near the New Tanauan City Hall and STAR Tollway will have a school, playground, health center and multi-purpose hall, DHSUD said.

Its location also makes its settlers accessible to job and livelihood opportunities.

While the housing unit is not free, DHSUD assured that it will be affordable to beneficiaries.

It said the cost of each housing unit will depend on the proposed budgetary expenses of each local government unit under the signed memorandum of understanding with the agency.

DHSUD is keen to provide full technical assistance to LGUs throughout the implementation of the housing project.

LGUs are tasked to provide a list of qualified beneficiaries prior to the completion of the housing project which will be followed by occupation.

Earlier, the DHSUD said it has tapped financial institutions and other private banks to implement the Pambansang Pabahay program and make it more inclusive to Filipinos.
