‘3D’ info system launch seen
The web-based application will provide researchers from national government agencies, local government units, and other sectors with a centralized database system
A web-based application that complements the management and analysis of scientific data to aid research, planning and disaster risk reduction initiatives will be launched next week according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
The 3D Philippines Information System was developed to push a centralized database system for 3D visualization and analysis of surface and subsurface information.
The initiative is led by the Department of Science and Technology-Phivolcs and the De La Salle University in collaboration with the Department of Public Works and Highways, monitored by the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development.
DoST-Phivolcs said the web-based application will provide researchers from national government agencies, local government units, and other sectors with a centralized database system for storing, accessing, and facilitating hazards and risk assessment of surface and subsurface information.
Phivolcs officer-in-charge, Dr. Teresito C. Bacolcol stressed that one of the aims of 3D Philippines is to incorporate borehole information in the GeoRiskPH Platform so that researchers can see subsurface information and consequently determine subsurface conditions for geotechnical designs.
"With the borehole information integrated into the system, we get a three-dimensional view and this would be very useful to our engineers," Bacolcol said.
The official launching of the 3D Philippines Information System will be on 15 November in Quezon City and it will be followed by a two-day training workshop from 16 to 17 November to capacitate more than 100 participants from the Department of Public Works and Highways, National Housing Authority, National Irrigation Authority, National Water Resources Board, and local government units on the use of the platform.
The 3D visualization of the HazardHunterPH and the GeoAnalyticsPH will also be available to the public.
