Pampanga gov eyes solar farm

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — The provincial government here is keen on constructing a solar farm in the province to lower the electricity rate here.

Pampanga Governor Dennis Pineda said that the idea came to him after he visited a solar power plant of Ewha Power Corp. in Jeollanam, South Korea on Friday as part of their inter-province cooperation in developing trade, agriculture, technology, tourism and employment.

The activity is one of the many ocular inspections made by Pineda during his visit in South Korea.

Ewha Power Corp. chief executive officer Lee Nam showed Pineda the equipment, storage, and harvesting technologies of the corporation.

The official cited that the new power storage has provided them enough supply of electricity to consumers in times of crises, particularly during a power outage.

He added that the new storage technology is more dependable and does not need major maintenance compared to other solar panel systems being used in the Philippines.

The current price of electricity in South Korea is around P3.2 to P4.8 kilowatt per hour, which is significantly lower that the P12 to P18 Kwh in Pampanga.

Company officials also cited that having solar harvesting systems would increase the supply of electricity in the province.

He added that having solar power with help in preventing climate change due to the lower emissions of greenhouse gases.

Pineda and Lee are set to meet again to discuss plans and survey the province for the construction of the solar technology.
