Supreme Court zeroes in on digitalization

The Supreme Court is gearing up for a full digital system in an effort to cope with the new technology and move closer to paperless judicial proceedings, according to Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo.

The Chief Justice said that the plan for digital transformation will be completed after a five-year preparation, in which all court proceedings could be accessed and linked up by the SC and all courts in the country.

"The aim is to veer away with paper type of disposition of justice, where every legal note is traceable in a computerized file from beginning of the case until its end. It is a way to hasten court cases," Gesmundo said.

He stressed that it's about time that the judiciary cope with modern times, stressing that the system will be implemented in all courts of the land that all court personnel are expected to be digitally prepared.

Under the proposed plan, all court hearings will be recorded by video and the links will be accessible to authorized individuals or group of lawyers or persons connected to case.
