BuCor strikes deal with PNPA

The Bureau of Corrections is eyeing an agreement with the Philippine National Police Academy to provide temporary housing and a means of livelihood to persons deprived of liberty who are scheduled for release.

Supt. Julie May Taguiam, head of BuCor's public information office, said BuCor's legal team is studying the possibility of housing these PDLs at the PNPA as part of efforts to decongest its jails around the country.

Taguiam said details of the agreement are still under negotiation.

BuCor had forged a similar set-up with the Philippine Military Academy in Baguio City, with 90 soon-to-be-released PDLs housed at its premises.

The possible agreement was discussed by BuCor director-general Gerald Bantag during his visit to the PNPA last Thursday, 22 September.
