UV Express group appeals for fare hike

Following the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board's approval of fare increases for jeeps, taxis, and transport network vehicle services, a UV Express group is appealing to the agency to also grant them its petition for a P1 fare hike.

According to Alliance of UV Express Association of the Philippines secretary-general George Jalandoni, the skyrocketing fuel prices are becoming a bane for UV Express operators and drivers.

"Our operators and drivers are facing a perennial problem of high fuel prices, so we decided to at least ask for a reasonable fare increase," said Jalandoni.

He added that while almost all of their pre-pandemic routes have been back to normal, the number of passengers have not yet increased in the past months.

"There are still some limitations there, our passengers have not yet returned to the pre-pandemic level," Jalandoni said.

The AUEAP secretary general also appealed to passengers for understanding.

"For our riders, I know that we are all experiencing the same pandemic that are happening right now and increase in our expenditures," said Jalandoni.

"Please understand that our request for a fare hike is reasonable, and rest assured that we in the UV Express sector will ensure better services."
