Two years into the pandemic and the end is already in sight, as recently confirmed by World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu. The potential of returning to the "former normal" we once enjoyed has never been greater.
A notable indicator of this is the increase in worldwide travel and tourism as health regulations relax, with countries opening up to tourists and some entirely abandoning the requirement for RT-PCR tests.
Cities and towns in the Philippines have followed the same trend in an attempt to revitalize local tourism and help the country's economy. With this, an idea was created: travel to numerous tourist destinations in the country on two wheels. Such is how Motorismo (Motorcycle x Tourism) was born.
Founded by Jaydee Chua-Gungon and launched on 12 August 2022, Motorismo, with safety at its core, intends to promote the idea of land travel to various tourist locations in the country through motorsports activities designed for both motorcycle aficionados and non-enthusiasts alike.
"This is a call to ride safely as we pave way for a new avenue to promote local tourism and help those who are directly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, now making their way to bounce back to recovery," Chua-Gungon said.
"Motorismo showcases the strong link of our culture and heritage sites through shops, restaurants, and other products that local and international motorbike-travelers can discover on two wheels," he added.
According to Chua-Gungon, participants will be treated to pre-planned travel "loops" passing through iconic travel sites up north or down south in motorcycle pelotons with the guidance of their partner Motorclyde, a motorcycle safety and training center headed by Coach Clyde Solano. This is to ensure the utmost safety of the participants as they also encourage individuals with no prior motorcycle riding experience to participate through driving training and courses leading up to the travel loop.
"Number one pag nag-ride ka may insurance ka na agad automatic (When you have a ride, you automatically get an insurance)," Chua-Gungon emphasized as he underlined that participants' safety and protection are their top priorities.
"We want to promote safety riding, ang aming (our) advocacy, and we want to make sure (riders are) disciplined. So yung mga nag-tetraining regardless kung CEO ka pa or general ka pa, sinisigawan yan ng aming mga coaches (Whether you're a CEO or a general, our coaches can scream instructions at them). I just want to make sure (the) standard is (still commensurate to our) module," Solano exclaimed.
Motorbike riding and traveling may be the perfect piece for travelers, thrill-seekers, or if you simply want to try a new activity, as it blends sightseeing with adrenaline-pumping along the symphony of churning motorcycle engines.
