Dive into the exciting live-action movie, The Little Mermaid, which is set to premiere on the big screen next year.

On Saturday, 10 September, Walt Disney Studios released The Little Mermaid's first official teaser trailer, treating fans to the cinematic and concept vibes of the reimagined 1989 film by John Musker and Ron Clements which, in turn, was based on Hans Christian Andersen's 19th century fairy tale.

In the one minute and 30-second video, viewers are given a sneak peek of the vast seas where the young mermaid, Ariel, lives. Its impressive CGI, storyline and the iconic "Part of your World" melody all center on R&B and pop singer Halle Bailey as the red-headed, green-tailed and fun-loving mermaid.

Bailey is one-half of the Grammy-nominated singing sister duo Chloe x Halle. She also acted in Freeform's comedy series Grown-ish.

"Swimming in the pool, imagining I was a mermaid, I never thought I could see that come to life," Bailey said in a previous interview.

Directed and reimagined by Oscar nominee Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns, Chicago), the film is joined by Oscar winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Being the Ricardos) as King Triton, two-time Academy Award nominee Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Bridesmaids) as Ursula the witch, Jonah Hauer-King (The Last Photograph, A Dog's Way Home) as Prince Eric and the voices of Jacob Tremblay (Wonder, Room) as Flounder, Daveed Diggs (Hamilton, Blindspotting) as Sebastian, and Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) as Scuttle.

The Little Mermaid hits cinemas on 26 May 2023.
