Firearms discharge drive nets 18

Eighteen persons were arrested while seven were wounded due to the illegal discharge of firearms ahead of the New Year celebrations, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP),

PNP spokesman PBGen. Bernard Banac said among those collared were a policemen and two Armed Forces personnel while the rest are civilians.

These cases came from the following areas: Region 1 (1), Region 2 (1), Region 4A (1), Region 5 (2), Region 6 (1), Region 8 (1), Region 9 (1), Region 10 (2), Region 11 (2, including 1 security guard), Region 13 (1, policeman), Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (2, soldiers), National Capital Region (3).

Those injured, meanwhile, came from the NCR (2) and BARMM (5).

Banac likewise bared that there were also incidents of stray bullets recorded in Metro Manila (1) and Region 13 (2). Fortunately, no one was killed or injured from the said incidents and police are now on the hunt for those responsible.

The official once again reminded gun owners to lock away their firearms during the New Year’s Eve revelries.
