Singapore’s Michelin-star resto finds home in Ortigas

PUTIEN prides itself for its roster of intricately prepared dishes which make use of fresh ingredients.

The Vikings Group brings the Singapore-based Michelin one-star restaurant Putien to the Filipinos with its first ever Philippine branch and 67th worldwide, at The Podium in Ortigas.

“Putien serves characteristically light, down-to-earth and flavorful food, with an emphasis on fresh ingredients,” founder and CEO Fong Chi Chung said.

Putien is named after the founder’s hometown, Putian City — a coastal suburb in the province of Fujian, China. It began as a coffee shop in Singapore’s Kitchener Road in 2000 and has since grown into a popular chain with 67 outlets in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai and Taiwan.

“It is my mission to share the culinary flavors of my hometown to diners all over the world,” he added.

Unlike the Chinese cuisine most Filipinos are familiar with, Putien’s dishes are made with key ingredients harvested and obtained during specific seasons from certain places in Fujian. Among these are the yellow croaker from the mudflats of Ningde, Duotou clam from the Duo Tou Village and da hong pao from the high mountains.

“The Fujian flavor gives a unique twist to the usual Cantonese-style food,” Charles Lee, Vikings Group marketing director, shared. “We’re excited for Filipinos to finally try this new type of cuisine that’s making waves in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and China for its good quality and service.”

The restaurant prides itself with its roster of intricately prepared dishes which makes use of fresh ingredients, including the “number one must-try” Bian Rou Soup that highlights the wrappers made from pork hind leg meat pounded and kneaded for at least one and a half hours.

Their signature dishes also include the 100-Second Stewed Yellow Croaker and Sweet and Sour Pork with Lychee, with some being made with specific seasonal ingredients imported from Putian.
