Gonzaga ponders next move

Year 2019 is a very hectic one for national team member Jovelyn Gonzaga.

And after fulfilling all her obligations, the 28-year old opposite hitter now hopes to find time for herself as future looks uncertain for the southpaw Central Philippines University standout.

Aside from her national team duty, Gonzaga also suited up for Cignal HD Spikers in the Philippine Superliga (PSL) and Philippine Army in the Premiere Volleyball League (PVL) this season.

And right now, Gonzaga does not want to think of her next move either in the PSL or PVL as her focus is to recharge for the next year’s volleyball wars.

“I am not yet sure what the future holds for me but now I just wanted to shift my focus on myself,” said Gonzaga, a member of the national team that competed in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

“I was so busy the whole year that I did not have time for myself that much,” she added.

Gonzaga earned the moniker ‘Bionic Ilongga’ after splitting her time with the PSL and PVL. At one point, she played back-to-back five setters in both leagues.

And when she committed to play for the national team, Gonzaga had to endure the long travel in Japan and Thailand for their training camps.

“It really exhausted me because I really gave my all in all of the competitions and training I participated in,” Gonzaga said.

“But those were all rewarding experiences for me but then again, I am just a person who also gets tired after long days of work,” she added.

And although the country did not win a medal in the SEA Games, Gonzaga was still grateful that she was given the opportunity to represent the country.

“I am still thankful because who knows, this may be the last time that I will be playing for the county,” Gonzaga said.
