‘Ursula’ threatens to spoil Visayas-Caraga revelry

A rainy Christmas week looms in the Visayas and Caraga Regions as a weather disturbance is forecast to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility between Sunday night and Monday morning.

Tropical Storm “Ursula” (International name contributed by Laos: Phanfone) may make a landfall over Eastern Visayas-Caraga on Tuesday (24 December) evening and will traverse the Visayas, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

Starting Tuesday, moderate to occasional heavy rains may prevail over Visayas and northeastern Mindanao.

Ursula is likely to develop into a severe tropical storm and will affect Surigao City the day before Christmas, Roxas City in Capiz on Christmas Day and Subic, Zambales on 27 December.

As of Sunday’s 11 a.m. bulletin, Ursula has no direct effect on the country yet.

Meanwhile, the Low Pressure Area south southwest of Davao City has dissipated. However, cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms will still prevail over Mindanao on Sunday.
